Pakistan reveals playing XI for third Test vs England at Edgbaston

Pakistan have revealed their playing XI for the third Test of the three-match series against England at Edgbaston in Birmingham, which begins on September 09. They may decide to open with Saim Ayub and Azan Awais in the game as Imam-ul-Haq has been left out of the side due to injury. 

The board has sent out seven players from the current squad of the England series including their wicket-keeper batter, Mohammad Rizwan, and their vice-captain, Salman Agha, who led the team during the opening Test at Headingley.

It could turn out to be a hard job for Babar to remember all the changes of the playing XI at the toss. Ayub comes from the West Indies where he featured in the recent Caribbean Premier Legue (CPL) 2026, while their 21-year-old quick Razaullah could earn his first cap of the format. 

Mohammad Ali has bowled really well in the first two games and is expected to retain his place, where he will share the new ball with the veteran Mohammad Abbas, who joined the legendary names of the side to take a five-wicket haul at Lord’s in the previous contest.

Ghazi Ghori will be keeping wickets, which won’t be an easy job to tackle the wobble of the new ball in the English conditions.

“We've practiced a couple of days and explained some (things) to the new boys. Any young player who comes in is excited, and that excitement is visible. I believe that will show in the match, too.” Babar Azam, the captain of the Pakistan side, said in the press conference.

Down in the series — Can Pakistan finally turn it around at Edgbaston?

The surface was covered two days before the game, but on the eve of the encounter, when the sheet was taken off, it looked browner. Edgbaston surfaces in the County games have been hard to predict. Either they have been high-scoring draws or 200-par shootouts. A forecast of the cooler temperature is expected to welcome the players.

Shan Masood, if plays, will be featuring in his 50^th Test match for Pakistan. England haven’t won three Tests in a row since the summer of 2024, when they got five successive wins against Sri Lanka and West Indies.

The hosts have won five of the eight encounters against Pakistan in Birmingham, including the two victories, which came by 141 runs in 2016 and by nine wickets in 2010.
