After their dominating performances in the respective opening fixtures at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India locked horns with Pakistan at the same ground on September 14 in the group stage. Salman Ali Agha won the toss and decided to bat first on the fresh surface, expecting it to hold in the second innings as Suryakumar Yadav, India’s captain, refused to shake hands with the Pakistan captain.

From losing their opener, Saim Ayub, on the first legal ball of the innings to the end, nothing worked for the batting side. Sahibzada Farhan got 40 runs, but it took him 44 balls to reach the position. India’s three spinners, Axar Patel, Varun Chakravarthy, and Kuldeep Yadav, shared a fine joint figure of 6/60 in 12 overs before Shaheen Afridi’s 33* runs pushed them to 127/9.
