Pakistan set to welcome England and Sri Lanka for multi-nation ODI series

Reports indicate that both England and Sri Lanka have reached an initial agreement to take part in the ODI tri-series which will be held in Pakistan. The ODI tournament will start after Sri Lanka plays a three-match T20I series.

The series will provide Pakistan an opportunity to evaluate their performance against two skilled ODI teams under home match conditions. England still ranks among the top white-ball teams although they have faced difficulties while Sri Lanka seeks to enhance their performance after achieving inconsistent results in their previous ODI matches. Pakistan hosted a tri-series which included Sri Lanka and Zimbabwe in 2025 and won the tournament by defeating Sri Lanka in the championship match at Rawalpindi.

Tri-series expected to serve as key preparation ahead of upcoming ICC tournaments

The upcoming ODI tri-series will serve as a crucial component for the teams who will compete in the ICC ODI World Cup 2027 which South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia will jointly host. Pakistan has established their potential as an ODI team through their recent two-year performance which included a series victory against South Africa and their overpowering match against Sri Lanka.

England and Sri Lanka are currently working to restore their consistent performance before the upcoming World Cup cycle. Sri Lanka will play two Test matches against Pakistan which will take place later this year as part of their schedule for the ICC World Test Championship 2025-27.

Schedule, venues and squad announcements likely to follow in coming weeks

The complete schedule for the tri-series is expected to be announced soon once discussions between the three cricket boards are finalised. Lahore and Karachi are currently the frontrunners to host the matches.

Pakistan are currently preparing for their upcoming Test series against Bangladesh before shifting focus toward the home white-ball season later this year. The tri-series will attract major fan interest because it features three competitive teams which will take place before international cricket matches begin.
