The early exit of the Pakistani team from the T20 World Cup 2026 resulted in the emergence of many reports that claimed that the players of the national team would be fined due to their poor performance. As per the reports, each player of the team would have to pay a fine of PKR 50 lakh. These reports were quickly spread across social media, and the matter is currently creating a lot of discussion among the fans of the sport. However, the Pakistan Cricket Board has now clarified the situation.

It is reported that the decision to fine the players of the team was taken after the team suffered a huge defeat at the hands of India. The team, led by Salman Ali Agha, was eliminated from the tournament at the Super 8 stage. It is the second consecutive T20 World Cup from which the team failed to reach the knockout stage.

One of Pakistan’s most disappointing moments came against arch-rivals India. In that match, Pakistan were bowled out for just 114 runs while chasing the target. India eventually won the match by 61 runs, which added further criticism towards the team’s performance during the tournament.

PCB Calls Fine Reports “Social Media Gossip”

PCB spokesperson Amir Mir strongly denied the claims that the board planned to fine the players. He made it clear that no such decision was ever taken by the cricket board. According to him, the reports were simply rumours spreading on social media.

"No such decision was ever taken by the PCB. It was all social media gossip. There is no such precedence or provision," Mir told Hindustan Times.

Earlier, veteran Pakistan cricketer Ahmed Shehzad had reacted to the reports in a television show. He even offered to pay the fine himself if it helped Pakistan cricket improve. "Mein de deta hoon 50 lakh fine. Agar mulk theek ho raha hai ya cricket theek ho rahi hai khuda ki kasam, mein de deta hoon. Saare players ki jagah mein de deta hoon. Jitno ko bhi fine karna hai – mein de deta hoon (I'll pay the PKR 50-lakh fine. If the country is improving or cricket is getting better because of it, I swear to God, I'll pay it. I'll pay on behalf of all the players. Fine whoever you want – I'll pay it.)," Shehzad said on Haarna Mana Hai.
