Preity Zinta slams ‘fake narratives’ after Punjab Kings’ fourth straight IPL 2026 loss

The co-owner of the Punjab Kings (PBKS), Preity Zinta, has called for ‘verified voices’ and differentiated criticism and calculated misinformation amid their mid-season slump in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, after four successive defeats to slip from the top position of the points table to the fourth rank in a gap of a few days. 

Punjab, who started their campaign with six consecutive victories and one washed-out result against the Kolkata Knight Riders, are currently in fourth position in the table at a net run rate of +0.428, due to the four successive defeats.

Zinta’s post comes after the Shreyas Iyer-led side lost to the Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamsala, which marked their fourth loss in a row. Amid the ongoing struggle, there have been media reports about a lack of discipline from the players and the franchise.

The renowned Bollywood actress reckoned that deliberate spreading of fake narratives on the team and their players won’t be taken lightly in the future.

“There’s a difference between criticism & calculated misinformation. Healthy debate around the game is welcome, but the deliberate spread of fake narratives to damage individuals, the team, or the brand should not & will not be taken lightly.” Zinta wrote on her official ‘X’ handle (formerly known as Twitter).

“I urge everyone, including verified voices & media professionals, to exercise responsibility before amplifying unverified information. Thank you.” She posted.

Apart from Preity’s comments on defending the team amid the growing pressure in the IPL 2026, the franchise also issued a similar statement. They urged everyone to ‘verify facts before spreading misinformation.’

“Criticism, banter, and opinions are part of sport. Fake stories and made-up narratives for cheap engagement are not. We urge everyone to verify facts before spreading misinformation for attention or traction.” The 2014 runners-up addressed.

Punjab’s very first defeat of the edition came against the Rajasthan Royals by six wickets. They continued the slump and went on to face three more defeats against the Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Delhi Capitals.

The Indian core group at the top of the side has been exceptional with the bat, but their poor planning and terrible fielding haven’t helped them at all in the last four games. 

They haven’t yet confirmed their playoff spot, and will have three more games left. Their next encounter will be on May 14 in Dharamsala against the Mumbai Indians.
