The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) were superb with their bowling and fielding performance during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Rajasthan Royals (RR) at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekhana Stadium in Lucknow. The home side started fabulously with three wickets inside the power play.

Mohammed Shami, despite being smashed for three successive boundaries in his second over, picked up two consecutive wickets of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Dhruv Jurel. Meanwhile, Mohsin Khan, in the very next over, became the very first bowler to produce a wicket-maiden over against Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.

It was the fifth delivery of the 15th over of the first innings. Mayank Yadav, who made his first appearance in this season of the tournament, bowled a slower ball on a length as Ravindra Jadeja tucked it through to the square leg region.

Donovan Ferreira, from the non-striker end, looked to come back for the second run. But they fell for a miscommunication, and it should have been a straightforward run-out from Lucknow. Jadeja called for the second and then sent back his partner, who was almost halfway down.

The throw came from Nicholas Pooran, but that was way off target. Rishabh Pant came charging towards the stumps to dislodge the bails as he ran quickly. But he tumbled and fumbled. By the time he recovered and threw the ball, Ferreira recovered and made his ground.

Another fielder, from the point region, had to uproot the stumps with the batter diving for safety. This was a chance for Lucknow to get the batter out, who was eventually dismissed in the very next over on 20 runs.

Rajasthan gains momentum to finish with 159/6

By the end of 17 overs, the inaugural champions reached 116 for the loss of six wickets. In the very next over, they earned 11 runs, which was followed by 12 runs as Shubham Dubey clubbed two boundaries in the over of Prince.

Jadeja welcomed Mayank in the last overs with a fine boundary before picking the length ball for another four on the third delivery. And the southpaw finished it with a massive six over the deep backward square leg to finish with 159/6 in their allotted 20 overs. They continued the momentum with two early wickets of Lucknow in the defense.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): LSG 10/2 (Mitchell Marsh 10*, Nandre Burger 1/1) vs RR 159/6 (Ravindra Jadeja 43*, Mohsin Khan 2/17)
