Ahead of this game, the Mumbai Indians came into the encounter on the back of their massive defeat against the Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium at Chepauk, while the Super Giants experienced five successive losses, including the super-over fixture against the Kolkata Knight Riders.

On the eve of the encounter, both Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma were seen sharing banter among themselves. Both of them are quite close, sharing a mutual relationship. Both have extreme trust, which is quite useful in this game of cricket.

It was an optional training session for the home side, who played their last game just 24 hours ago. The plan was perhaps to give most of the players enough rest to be fresh for the home fixture. But Rohit hasn’t been in action for the last couple of weeks.

The Nagpur-born picked up a hamstring injury during the game against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) while going for the single and has missed all the games for the five-time champions. He has gone through a few sessions to check his running status and fitness. But he is yet to reach the position to be match-fit.

Meanwhile, Pant, drained from the consecutive defeats, wanted a break from the game and got that for nearly a week. They will need a better performance with the bat to back their bowling, which has been quite impressive in both the pace and spin departments, but they will face a challenge against a powerful batting side of the Mumbai franchise.

The 2020 champions are at the ninth position of the points table with two victories in nine games at a net run rate of -0.803, while the Super Giants are at the bottom of the table with two wins in eight clashes at a net run rate of -1.106.
