The Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), opting to bat first in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, went off to a flying start with 84 runs coming in just seven overs for the loss of Abhishek Sharma early.

Travis Head celebrated his half-century off just 22 balls before thumping the mystery spinner, Varun Chakravarthy, for a towering six over the long-off dismissal. That was when the Kolkata Knight Riders needed someone to put up a brilliant bowling or thrilling fielding performance to lift their energy.

Rovman Powell’s superb catch removes Heinrich Klaasen in IPL 2026

Heinrich Klassen bailed the Hyderabad franchise over the line in the massive 244-run chase against the Mumbai Indians in the previous fixture at the iconic Wankhede Stadium. And he continued the same aggressive batting with a massive six against Cameron Green.

Watch the video here:

The right-handed batter welcomed the Australian pacer with the over boundary as he stood tall to swing his willow over the long-on and cleared the rope with the ball bursting through the hands of Rinku Singh. He backed it up with a boundary, bringing the wrist into play over the mid-wicket region.

But a jaw-dropping catch from Rovman Powell sent back the former Protea batter. The West Indian moved to his right at the deep mid-wicket region and leapt to pluck it out of the thin air with his right hand. His left palm fell on the ground. He tumbled but ensured that the ball wouldn’t touch the turf.

Powell was in full control of the ball. In that process, his sunglasses broke while he dived on the ground. But that was a vital fielding show to dismiss the South African batter.

KKR slowed down SRH with smart bowling show

After 11 overs, Hyderabad found themselves at 121/3. But in the next 25 deliveries, they lost three wickets for just 18 runs as Kolkata used all the tricks of smart bowling and electrifying fielding to put massive pressure on the home side. Sunil Narine, meanwhile, completed his 200 wickets in the IPL.

The onus was entirely on Ishan Kishan, who made his way to 36 runs off 27 balls, thanks to four boundaries and one six at a strike rate of 133.33. Any score of over 180 would be competitive to depend on for the 2016 champions.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): SRH- 156/9 (Travis Head 61, Varun Chakravarthy 3/36) vs KKR.
