India’s fielding was superb in the opening ODI of the five-match series against New Zealand, played on November 04 at Eden Park in Auckland. And their veteran Rohit Sharma continued the impressive job as his stunning throw runs out Daryl Mitchell for 28 runs.
Earlier in the day, after a slight delay of 20 minutes, India’s captain, Shubman Gill, won the toss and decided to bowl first, keeping the drizzle in mind, with the surface being under the covers for nearly an hour before the start of the clash as they went with four pacers in the eleven.
Rohit Sharma’s direct hit: Watch the run-out that ended Daryl Mitchell’s 28
It was the first delivery of the 22nd over as the visitors brought in their left-arm spinner, Axar Patel. A gentle nudge into the leg side from Glenn Phillips saw him call for a quick single as he reached to the other side of the crease. But his partner wasn’t that fast.
Watch the moment here-
Daryl Mitchell and Phillips had a bit of yes-no and ball-watching while taking the single, which proved to be costly as Rohit Sharma was quick to rush to the ball. His underarm throw, combined with quick glovework from KL Rahul, dismissed Mitchell for just 28 runs.

It was a very important wicket for India as Mitchell had four centuries and two fifties from his last seven innings against the Indian side. Rohit celebrated the fielding as the rest of the team joined him in the middle.
How India put New Zealand under pressure with the ball in the 1st ODI: Key moments
Arshdeep Singh drew the first blood for the Indian side with the wicket of Will Young for nine runs. The Kiwis also lost Henry Nicholas soon before Mitchell and Tim Seifert looked to take charge with a 33-run partnership for the third wicket before the latter went back to the hut for 38 runs.
The Kiwis lacked partnerships in the middle overs as India continued to take regular wickets. Anshul Kamboj was superb with the ball as he finished with magical figures of 2/22 in his 10 overs, including two maidens at an economy rate of 2.20.
