Mumbai Indians Begin 2026 Pre-Season Training
The Mumbai Indians' 2026 training officially started on Monday. The camp is led by Mahela Jayawardene with bowling coaches Paras Mhambrey and Lasith Malinga. Carl Hopkinson is also present as the fielding coach.
Rohit Sharma scored 418 runs in 15 matches during IPL 2025 and helped the Mumbai Indians reach the playoffs. Since retiring from T20 and Test cricket, he is focusing on ODIs and preparing for the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit hopes to play an important role in MI’s bid for the IPL title after six years.
Rohit’s best IPL season was in 2013 when he scored 538 runs and helped MI win the title. In 2015, he was Player of the Final as Mumbai beat Chennai Super Kings to win their second title. MI also won IPL titles in 2017, 2019, and 2020 under his captaincy. His experience will be key for MI in 2026.
Jayawardene Leads Mumbai Indians’ 2026 Pre-Season Camp
Mahela Jayawardene, Head Coach of Mumbai Indians, said, "There's always something special about the first day of pre-season. You see the players walk in, the energy builds, and the objective is to start strong. We've got the boys who know this franchise inside out, and we have got some exciting new faces coming in."
He added, "Day one sets the tone for the entire campaign. We wanted everyone to feel the intent from the very first session, in how we train, how we prepare, and how we show up for each other. The first session is always exciting, but it's also the start of something serious, and we know what we're building towards."
The rest of the squad is expected to join the camp in the coming days as preparations build in intensity ahead of the tournament.
Notably, Rohit Sharma joined the Mumbai Indians in 2011 and became captain in 2013. He led MI to their first IPL title in his first season as captain and continued as captain for 11 years before Hardik Pandya took over in 2024.
Rohit is MI’s top scorer and one of only four players to score more than 6000 runs in the IPL. In IPL 2025, he scored 418 runs in 15 matches, helping MI reach the playoffs. Since retiring from T20 and Test cricket, he is focusing on ODIs with an eye on the 2027 ODI World Cup. Rohit will aim to play an important part in MI’s bid for a sixth IPL title, their first in six years.
