Shock move! Harbhajan Singh’s security cover withdrawn by Punjab Police
Harbhajan Singh’s Z+ security cover withdrawn by Punjab Police after AAP exit. CRPF deployed as political tensions rise ahead of Punjab elections.

In a dramatic political development, the Aam Aadmi Party-led Punjab government has withdrawn the Z+ category security cover of Rajya Sabha MP and former cricketer Harbhajan Singh. The decision came on April 25, just a day after Raghav Chadha announced that seven Rajya Sabha MPs had parted ways with AAP, triggering a major political shift in the state.
According to reports, around 9–10 Punjab Police personnel along with escort vehicles were removed from Harbhajan Singh’s residence in Chhotti Baradari, Jalandhar, effectively ending his state-provided security. The move highlights rising tensions within Punjab’s political landscape following the high-profile exit of key leaders from the ruling party.
Why Punjab Police decided to withdraw Harbhajan Singh’s security
The withdrawal is being seen as a direct consequence of the recent political exodus, where several leaders, including Swati Maliwal, Vikramjit Sahney, and Sandeep Pathak, reportedly distanced themselves from AAP. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has strongly reacted to the developments, alleging attempts to weaken the party ahead of the 2027 Assembly elections.

Soon after the Punjab Police withdrew security, the Central government stepped in and deployed personnel from the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) outside Harbhajan Singh’s residence, ensuring continued protection at the central level.
Reactions pour in after major decision sparks debate
The decision has sparked widespread reactions across political and public circles. Protests erupted in parts of Punjab, with AAP workers demonstrating outside the residences of several leaders, including Harbhajan Singh. In some cases, walls were defaced with “gaddar” (traitor) graffiti, reflecting the intensity of the backlash.
The situation has added a new layer to the ongoing political battle between AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), with both sides trading accusations over loyalty, governance, and political ethics.
As the dust settles, the episode underscores how quickly political alignments can shift—and how those shifts can have immediate real-world consequences, even extending to personal security arrangements.
