Shubman Gill's back-to-back century powers IND vs WI chase

When the West Indies posted a massive score of 405 runs in their allotted 50 overs during the second ODI of the three-match series against India at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati, the hosts needed a strong start from their openers, and their captain, Shubman Gill, showed his skill with his second successive century.

Gill was fresh from the century he made in the previous ODI against the same opposition at the Greenfield Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram in the 296-run chase. He has been superb in the ODIs in 2026 and has developed his conversion of fifties and centuries in the 50-over format.

Gill’s first boundary of the evening came on the final delivery of the very first over when a thick outside edge raced away to the fence as he threw his bat at Shamar Joseph’s ball and smashed it over the deep backward point region. He didn’t allow the pace to settle in the middle.

With a fine boundary, whacking the drive through the extra cover for a rapid boundary, Gill brought up his fifty in style and raised his bat to the crowd to soak the applause. He nailed two successive sixes in the same over against Roston Chase and never slowed down in the entire knock.

With a boundary on the opening ball of the 21st over, the right-handed batter chased a mountain and brought up his 62-ball century. The helmet came off as the bat was raised and shown to all corners of the ground. Rohit Sharma walked up and embraced him.

India made a flying start to the mammoth 400+ run chase

John Campbell’s 65-ball century set the platform for the tourists inside the powerplay before captain Shai Hope and Amir Jangoo, both of whom went on to celebrate their respective centuries, posted a strong partnership of 182 runs for the third wicket. The latter drilled 114 runs off just 77 balls.

India got a dominating start with the 200+ run opening stand as Rohit also continued to put the bowlers in all parts of the park and made his way towards the three-figure mark. The visitors had no answer to the onslaught of the Indian side.
