Shubman Gill, Kohli's candid chat after 1st ODI win vs WI

Indian ODI captain Shubman Gill shared a candid interaction with veteran batter Virat Kohli after their victory in the opening clash of the three-match series against West Indies on September 28 at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. The former spoke about sharing the field with Kohli.

West Indies posted a massive score of 295 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs, thanks to Justin Greaves’ century, while the blue brigade completed the chase by eight wickets thanks to Gill and Kohli’s respective centuries.

Reacting to Kohli’s knock, Gill said that the experienced batter has won enough games for the national side to let him do his thing, and the team trusted him to do that exactly.

“Someone like him, who has won so many games for the country. Who has done it over and over again, you just let him play however he wants to play on the day because when he plays well, he can win matches for you.” Gill expressed in the special video.

Virat Kohli revealed how he had taken on a new challenge of being aggressive at the start of his innings, which has helped him to do well for the Indian side and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB).

“I've got a challenge at this stage of my career to kind of up the ante and play a gear or two higher, and yeah, that was exciting for me to work on.” He reflected.

“Again, it excites you when you have to unlock a new version at this stage of your career, which will eventually help any team that you play for, be it playing for India or in the IPL.” Kohli addressed.

Kohli reached his fifty off just 40 balls with a fine six and continued the same aggression to reach his century in the same manner.

“It's really helped me a lot to play with a free mind, and I think that's what's working for me. But I think to follow a free mind, you need a fit body. So for me it works the other way around. I stay physically fit, and then I'm able to visualise the game in the way that I want to play, which allows me the best chance to go out there and execute in the way that I did tonight.” The Indian veteran concluded.

The Shai Hope-led side posted a massive score of 295 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs. Justin Greaves smacked 101 runs at a strike rate of 93.52 with 12 boundaries, while Amir Jangoo blasted 58 runs off 43 balls with seven boundaries and one six.

After the dismissal of Rohit Sharma, Gill and Kohli brought up a partnership of 151 runs for the second wicket. The former nailed 110 runs while the latter remained undefeated on 139 runs off 88 balls at a strike rate of 157.95, thanks to 10 boundaries and a record-breaking nine over boundaries.
