Just when the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) went off to a flying start thanks to Venkatesh Iyer’s three boundaries and one six in his first six deliveries during the first qualifier of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in Dharamsala, Shubman Gill grabbed a spectacular catch to break the momentum.

The Gujarat Titans (GT) captain won the toss and decided to bowl first on a surface which was expected to provide with some help with the new ball while batting could get easier in the second innings. RCB, however, wasn’t much disappointed with the invitation.

On the fifth delivery of the second over, Iyer shuffled across in the creased and scooped Kagiso Rabada’s fiery delivery over the fine leg region for a 57-meter six. He used all of the pace and sent over the fence for a huge six.

After a delay of around five minutes due to the issue with the sightscreen, the game started as Venkatesh cleared his intent with the first delivery being crunched through the cover-point region for a boundary.
