The Indian ODI captain, Shubman Gill, has found himself caught off guard when reporters shocked them with a few questions on the T20I set-up as the Shreyas Iyer-led side just arrived in India after winning the Gold Medal of the Asian Games 2026 final, in which they beat Pakistan, thanks to the all-round performance.
Gill was recently part of India’s three-match ODI series against West Indies, where he smashed a fine century in the opening clash at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram. Meanwhile, he celebrated his second double century of the 50-over format at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati.

In a video that went viral on social media, Gill was asked about his reaction to the Indian side’s win in the 2026 Asian Games Gold Medal clash. He replied, “Congratulations to the Indian team and my teammates.”

However, the reporter went a step ahead and asked him about his plans for the T20I series against the Shai Hope-led side, which is scheduled to begin on October 06 at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Stadium in Lucknow. Gill replied, ‘T20? Main toh hu hi nahi.’

The Indian captain was on his way back home from New Chandigarh, where they played the final ODI of the series, which ended in a defeat for them. He hasn’t been part of the T20Is since late 2025 and was appointed as the vice-captain, only to be dropped before the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka.
How India won the Asian Games 2026 Gold medal vs Pakistan
At the Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, India met Pakistan during the final of the Asian Games 2026 Gold Medal clash. The blue brigade, batting first, posted a massive score of 211 runs for the loss of six wickets in their allotted 20 overs thanks to a couple of half-centuries from Tilak Varma (51* off 22 balls) and Abhishek Sharma (61 runs off 28 balls).
Pakistan, in reply, fell short of the target by 19 runs. Hasan Nawaz played a fabulous knock of 96 runs off 51 balls at a strike rate of 188.24, smashing five boundaries and seven sixes.

Brief Scores: India 211/6 (Abhishek Sharma 61, Arafat Minhas 2/25) beat Pakistan 192/6 (Hasan Nawaz 96, Washington Sundar 2/29) by 19 runs.
