In a recent interaction, the former Indian World Cup-winner, S Sreesanth, has thrown an open challenge for the ring-fight with his former team-mate, Harbhajan Singh, where an old photograph of him and the spinner were dressed in boxing gears as the picture was shown on the screen. 

The controversy between these two started from the slap gate incident of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2008, which has always been a major talking point. During the contest, Harbhajan slapped Sreesanth on the field after the game, as the episode became the most controversial moment in IPL history.

What exactly did Sreesanth say to Harbhajan?

Looking at the picture, Sreesanth, during the show on Lallantop, challenged that he would be ready to settle things inside a boxing ring. Notably, both these two former players met each other in a podcast hosted by Harbhajan and his wife.

“This same scene, do you have the guts? Do you have the guts to come into the ring with me? Can you sign and come? Can you? I am asking him. Do you have the guts to come into the ring with me? Wearing these same gloves. This is not acting; I am smiling. You are not even smiling. I don't know what you are doing. Let's see. This is an open challenge.” The Kerala-born expressed in the video.

“I am currently in the Bear Knuckle Fight League, and I am also one of the main sponsors of Conor McGregor's video; one of my good friends sponsored it, so the promotion is also done. I am challenging you, Bhajji (Harbhajan Singh).” He added in the interaction.

Sreesanth didn’t stop there as the pacer requested the Punjab-born to settle their differences in a real contest rather than through the advertisements. He also portrayed it as a matter of self-respect.   

“I challenge you, Bhajji. If you have this much of a problem with the slap thing and me, and you earn this much. Let me earn too. Come into the ring. I am calling you from my heart. If we have some self-respect, let’s not do ads and all that. Genuinely, for all the Malayalis and all the Sardars, please come. I am waiting.” The former pacer concluded.

What's the real history between Sreesanth and Harbhajan?

Following the slap gate incident between the two former players, Sreesanth was in tears in the field. They played a few more years together for the national side. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) banned Harbhajan from the remainder of IPL 2008 and suspended him from 11 ODIs. 

Their relationship broke down when the pacer took a major exception to a recent program featuring the spinner, where the latter appeared to make light of and profit from the slapping incident.
