The first ODI between the Sri Lankan Women’s cricket team and the West Indian Women’s cricket team will be held at the National Cricket Stadium in St George’s, Grenada on Friday 20 February, and will mark the return for both teams to 50-over competition. The West Indies Women currently rank 9th in the ICC Women’s ODI ranking and will be looking for some momentum after being away from ODI cricket for so long. Their last ODI series was against South Africa at home in June 2025, where the West Indies faced a challenge, losing the series 1-2, but showing some potential with their bat and ball at various points throughout the series.

On the other hand, the Sri Lanka Women will have slightly better recent results, as they currently hold 6th place in ODI rankings, and are led by captain Chamari Athapaththu. Their last appearances in the format as part of the global World Cup (held from September to November of last year) were consistent. Although they finished in 5th place overall and missed out on qualifying for the semifinals, their overall performance was indicative of their continued development, balanced roster, and ability to compete with higher-ranked teams in front of large crowds on big stages. They will enter this opening match with confidence from their recent ODI performances and are looking to make a strong impression tonight.
