Just a flick of the wrists and the ball flew into the gallery of six. Suryakumar Yadav, Team India T20I captain, hit the first six of the India vs South Africa 1st T20I (IND vs SA 1st T20I) at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack. Against experienced South African pacer Kagiso Rabada, Yadav launched the ball for a huge six on the leg side.

The pitch of the Barabati Stadium is not a usual T20 surface where batters can come and score runs swiftly. South Africa skipper Aiden Markram elected to bowl first after winning the toss, as there is a layer of grass on the track. Though, underneath the green surface, there are some cracks on the deck, which make it hard to predict.

Suryakumar Yadav said that he would not mind batting first, as the pitch is not predictable at first glance. When the match began, South African pacers quickly got their momentum by removing Shubman Gill. It was his first match after the neck injury he received during the India vs. South Africa 1st Test. Abhishek Sharma, who is known for his explosive batting, also looked cold in front of the opposing pacers.

After the dismissal of Gill, Yadav walked into the pitch with a lot of burden on his shoulders. India was 5 for 1 when the skipper joined Abhishek Sharma in the middle. The seasoned batter started batting in a watchful manner. He showed no hurry against Marco Jansen. But started to accelerate against Rabada.

On the second ball of the 3rd over, Yadav smashed Rabada for a four on the leg side and a six on the following delivery. The boundary and the over-boundary were both the results of the roll of the wrists. After conceding the boundary, Rabada kept a length ball on the pads. Yadav read the ball early, adjusted himself for a lifted flick, and delivered. Over deep mid-wicket it was the first biggie of the match. But in the next ball, Suryakumar lost his wicket and had to go back to the dugout after scoring only 12 runs against 11 deliveries.
