Suryakumar Yadav to miss Duleep Trophy first round

Suryakumar Yadav’s Test comeback ambition has got a massive hit as the soon-to-be 34-year-old will miss the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024/25 due to an injury.

Suryakumar Yadav received a hand injury last week when he was playing for Mumbai against TNCA XI at the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament in Coimbatore. He was injured on the third day of the match when he was fielding and didn’t bat in the second innings of his team.

Later, the Mumbai team management clarified that Suryakumar’s absence from second innings batting was precautionary, keeping in mind his participation in the Duleep Trophy.

Suryakumar is currently at the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. The Indian cricketer has been advised to rest.

Suryakumar Yadav played one Test

The new Indian T20I captain Suryakumar is desperate to return to Test cricket. He played one Test match when he made his Test debut during the 2023 Nagpur Test against Australia. On his Test debut, the right-handed batter batted once and scored eight runs.

Suryakumar Yadav would play for Ruturaj Gaikwad-led India C

In the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024/25, Suryakumar was named to the India C team. Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the team, and India C will face Shreyas Iyer-led India D in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024/25 in Anantapur from September 5.

Already, Mohammed Siraj, Umran Malik, and Ravindra Jadeja have been released from the Duleep Trophy 2024/25 first round. While Siraj and Malik are injured, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasn’t revealed Jadeja’s absence for the first round.

Navdeep Saini has replaced Siraj in Team B, where Jadeja was another member. Meanwhile, Gaurav Yadav has replaced Malik in Team C.

Also, Team B’s Nitish Kumar Reddy’s participation in the Duleep Trophy 2024/25 first round is still subject to fitness.
