The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken an u-turn ahead of India's upcoming tour to England. BCCI decided to rehire T Dilip as the fielding coach of team India which will be led by Shubman Gill in England for a 5-match Test series.

The board went through a huge shake up in the coaching line-up after the team's poor against Australia in the Border Gavaskar Trophy, where Rohit Sharma's team was defeated by 1-3 by the host team. After that series, BCCI held a review meeting, where they decided to sack T Dilip as well as assistant coach Abhishek Nayar and conditioning coach Soham Desai.

Keeping the importance of the upcoming England tour in mind, BCCI was expected to appoint a foreigner as the fielding coach. As per fresh reports, that couldn't happen because the board couldn’t find a suitable candidate for the highly valued job.

For that reason, the officials opted to reappoint Dilip again, he is pretty popular among Indian players as well. The media report further stated that BCCI offered him a one year contract.

Reason behind Dilip's reappointment

A BCCI source informed the media about the appointment by saying, "We have decided to reappoint Dilip for a year and he will be travelling with the Indian team for England. His contract so far is for one year." Previously, Ravichandran Ashwin praised Dilip for his unique and effective method to improve the standards of fielding, especially in a close range.

Ashwin said, 'Close-in catching, in places like short leg, is a very difficult thing. You don’t get good fielders like this. Jaiswal himself volunteers and stands up. He also does head-to-head work. So, all in all, we didn’t get to see Dilip sir’s name not getting mentioned more prominently".
