'The BCCI can't...'- BCCI sources reflect on India's participation in Ind vs Pak during Asia Cup 2025

Since PCB chairman, Mohsin Naqvi, announced the details of the Asia Cup 2025 in Dubai and Abu Dhabi on the Karil Vijay Diwas, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are facing a lot of criticism after the Indian side agreed to play the tournament. There were several meetings in the Asian Cricket Council (ACC). 

When the political relationship between India and Pakistan broke through the ceasefire a few months ago, many predicted that they had already seen the last conflict between the neighboring countries. Both of them are part of the same group, and if things go as planned, they may face each other three times in three weeks.

‘The BCCI cannot withdraw from the tournament or the match now. The decision was agreed upon after the ACC meeting. Since India is the host nation, nothing can be changed at this stage. An official-level discussion took place, and the outcome was decided accordingly. The match will go ahead as scheduled.’ The BCCI sources expressed to IANS.

ACC have declared the dates of the mega event, which is scheduled to start from September 09 between the Suryakumar Yadav and Salman Ali Agha-led sides. Apart from the five big nations of Asia, the United Arab Emirates, Oman, and Hong Kong will also take part in the tournament. The former two sides are in the same group of A.

India and Pakistan were scheduled to face each other in the World Championship Legends (WCL) 2025. But few players of the former side, including Irfan Pathan, Yusuf Patha, Suresh Raina, Harbhajan Singh, and Shikhar Dhawan, decided to pull out of the contest just hours before its beginning, That led the committee to cancel the contest with the growing demands from the fans.

The main event of the Asia Cup will begin from September 09, and Afghanistan will face Oman in the opener, which will be played in the shortest format. The top four teams from each group will qualify for the Super Four Stage, followed by the final. India are both the host nations and defending champions.
