The million-dollar question of the Indian cricket currently is whether the BCCI selectors should hand an international debut to the wonder-kid, the 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who has been superb with the bat during the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 for the Rajasthan Royals.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, in their previous fixture, celebrated the third-fastest century of the IPL in just 36 balls against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He has taken on some of the best international bowlers in world cricket on the first or second deliveries.

Ambati Rayudu’s blunt take on fast-tracking Vaibhav Sooryavanshi grabs massive attention

Ambati Rayudu, the former Indian batter, called for the international debut of Sooryavanshi as he compared the young southpaw with Sachin Tendulkar in terms of specialty.

“I feel that, you know, throw him in there and give him a go. Because this kid is special. Why are you stopping something that we haven’t seen for over a decade or two? We have seen Sachin Tendulkar in the game, and after that, we are seeing a kid who is equally special. What is the yardstick for judging someone like him?” Rayudu expressed on ESPNcricinfo.

Watch the video here:

“I want him to be at a level where he is either playing for India or he’s at the NCA training or maybe in the India-A camps. I don’t really want him to be going at that circuit of Indian domestic cricket yet. What sort of harm can he do? Maybe if he fails, he can come back after two years, and he would still be 17.” He addressed.

Meanwhile, the former Australian captain, Aaron Finch, felt that it would be important for him to stay around the training of the Indian side to be mentally prepared rather than being in the middle.

“I would say to take him on tours, but don’t necessarily say that you are coming to the tour, and you are surely playing. Just train him with these guys. Be around what it’s like mentally to be involved with the Indian cricket team.” The T20 World Cup-winning captain added.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has been in prolific form during IPL 2026

The Bihar-born is currently the third leading run-getter of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. So far, he has smashed 357 runs in eight innings at an average of 44.62 and a strike rate of 234.86 with the help of two half-centuries and one century at the best score of 103 runs.

Even when he hasn’t got milestones, the southpaw has made a massive contribution with the bat to provide the Royals with some fiery starts inside the powerplay. His power and range of shots have been extraordinary.
