In a comical circumstance during the third T20I of the five-match series between India and West Indies at Holkar Stadium in Indore, Tilak Varma got dismissed via a run-out as he misjudged the ball and thought it had gone for a boundary. He met his partner, Axar Patel, in the middle of the pitch and didn’t see the fielder.
The West Indies captain, Shai Hope, won the toss and had no hesitation in bowling first on a surface, which looked belter for the batting. There was dew anticipated in the second innings, while on a small ground, chasing was always going to be a preferable choice.
How Tilak Varma misjudged the boundary and walked back in Indore
It was the fourth delivery of the 17th over of the innings. Axar Patel flicked the low full-toss from Gudakesh Motie to the deep backward square-leg fence as Kamil Pooran ran and dived to his left and half-stopped the ball. As the ball was rolling away to the fence, he recovered and pushed it back in time.

Meanwhile, the batters completed one run and punched their gloves in the middle, assuming it was a boundary. Tilak continued to stroll back to the bowling crease, while Axar saw the ball coming and rushed inside the crease. Tilak didn’t know what was going on as Motie broke the stumps at the bowler’s end.
The third umpire checked the boundary save at the start and later went through the process of determining who put his bat inside the line before the stumps were broken. West Indies gladly accepted the wicket, as Tilak was dismissed for 28 runs off 16 balls.
