Tim David suspended for IPL 2027 opener after RCB controversy- BCCI releases official statement
The star RCB batter, Tim David, has been suspended from the opening game of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2027 as the BCCI has released the official statement.

It will be a bit jaw-dropping news for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and their fans after winning the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 just 24 hours ago. Their overseas lower-order batter, Tim David, can’t take part in the opening game of the IPL 2027 as he has been suspended from the contest.
David has been suspended from his next game of the competition, which will be the curtain raiser of the next IPL at RCB’s home venue, the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. He was already warned of these incidents twice before during the tournament.
What exactly did Tim David do to get banned by BCCI — And did anyone see this coming?
The incident happened during the IPL 2026 final in Ahmedabad during the 10th over of the Gujarat Titans’ innings. Following the fall of a wicket, which was off Jordan Cox’s catch off Washington Sundar that got ruled not out, Tim David threw an ice bag aggressively in the direction of umpire Niti Menon.
That has been the reason why the Australian star has been taken out 50% of his match fee. He admitted to the offense and accepted the sanction imposed by the match referee, Javagal Srinath. Since he collected five demerit points for the season, he will be handed a one-match ban.
“David was found to have breached Article 2.9 of the IPL's Code of Conduct, which relates to “throwing a ball (or any other item of cricket equipment such as a water bottle) at or near a Player, Team Official, Umpire, Match Referee or any other third person in an inappropriate and/or dangerous manner during a Match.” The BCCI released a statement.
“This was David’s third Level 1 offence of the season, having committed his first offence in Match 20 (one Demerit Point) and his second offence in Match 54 (two Demerit Points).” It addressed.
