Australia’s 214-run Test win over South Africa in Durban: players shake hands on the field, beside a wide-eyed South Africa player and a scorecard graphic showing Hazlewood’s 6 wickets

Australian star opening batter Travis Head took to Instagram to troll the South African captain, Temba Bavuma, after he suffered his first defeat as the Test leader through South Africa’s 214-run defeat against Australia during the opening Test of the three-match series at Kingsmead in Durban.

Bavuma held the record for the most matches as the South Africa captain before facing his first defeat, which saw his dream come to an end. With the defeat, the hosts dropped to the third position behind New Zealand in the points table of the World Test Championship (WTC) 2025/27.

Head trolls Bavuma on Instagram as Australia celebrate in Durban

As Bavuma experienced the first Test defeat as the captain of the South African side, Head took to his Instagram story to make fun of the Proteas leader. In the story, Temba Bavuma was seen to be laughing before suddenly getting shocked looking at the end result.

Watch Head trolling Bavuma here-

“It's not the way you want to start. You've got to give it to the Australians, the way they dominated the majority of the game. The way they stuck into us. And I think, for a lot of us who've had the experience of playing against them, you don't want to give them that opportunity to play the game from the front.” Bavum expressed in the post-match presentation.

“So there are a lot of questions and conversations that we'll need to have. We can learn from the way they went about it from a batting and bowling point of view, but I think you've got to give it to them in terms of their performance.” The South Africa captain added.

How Australia powered a 214-run win vs South Africa

Australia, despite being under pressure at 124/6, ended up with 390 runs in the first innings, thanks to the superb 190-run knock from Matt Renshaw, shouldering on 21 boundaries and one six, while he also got full support from the lower order of the side. The home batters failed to convert their starts into big scores and were bundled out for 284 runs.

Renshaw again smacked 82 runs off 99 balls in the second innings as they declared on 314 runs and set a massive target of over 400 runs. Aiden Markram fought hard for his 237-ball 75 before Josh Hazlewood went through the home side’s batting with 6/49 and earned the win by 214 runs.
