Jessica Head speaks out after trolls send death threats to her baby over Travis Head–Virat Kohli IPL 2026 spat

Australia opener Travis Head’s wife, Jessica, became the latest victim of social media abuse after the Indian fans went after the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) batter as he was engaged in a spat with Virat Kohli during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Hyderabad. 

Even though SRH won the clash by 55 runs and qualified for the Eliminator of the tournament, the major talking point was between Travis Head and Kohli, as the latter refused to shake hands with the former after the end of the game.

Jessica noted that she had received hateful comments on her direct messages on Instagram. Her friends and family members have also been subjected to social media abuse, as she compared it to the ODI World Cup 2023 final when Head celebrated a match-winning century to win the title.

“It feels like a repeat of the abuse that happened after the World Cup. I woke up to my socials blasting. We are fine, but they are attacking my friends and family. I think across all sports at the moment there’s an important conversation around mental health, perspective, and the way we speak to one another.” Jessica told Australian media outlet ‘The Advertiser.’

“Passion will always be part of sport, but so is remembering there are real people and families behind the game. Hopefully, this encourages more kindness and support for one another.” She added.

Jessica claimed that it happened after the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023 final and the Boxing Day Test 2024 as well.

It all started in the first innings when Virat Kohli celebrated the wicket of Head on the latter’s face as he was dismissed for 26 runs off 16 balls at a strike rate of 162.50, with the help of five boundaries. Now, during the chase, when Kohli got a boundary off his bat’s edge, Head, standing at the cover region, signaled something. 

That didn’t make Kohli happy at all as the Delhi-born asked Head to come and have a bowl at him. Even after the end of the clash, as the Australian player tried to shake hands with the Indian star, he realized there was no interest from the other end.

Hyderabad won the contest by 55 runs as they restricted the defending champions to 200 runs after the allotted 20 overs in the second innings.
