During the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash between the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad, both the star batters, Virat Kohli and Travis Head, got engaged in a heated altercation during the second innings.

It happened just after the Bengaluru batters smashed 23 runs in the third over of the chase against Shivang Kumr. It came through three sixes and two boundaries against the left-arm wrist spinner, who was under pressure, losing his line and length in the six balls.

The flashpoint explained — What triggered the Virat Kohli and Travis Head face-off in SRH vs RCB, and who said what?

At the start of the innings, when Virat Kohli got a boundary off his bat’s edge, Head, who was standing at the cover region, signaled that the ball had not been coming from the middle of the bat for the former RCB captain, who perhaps didn’t take it lightly.

Something seemed to trigger Kohli, who has currently smashed 557 runs in 14 innings of the competition at an average of 50.63 and a strike rate of more than 163, thanks to four half-centuries and one century at the best score of unbeaten 105 runs.

Can RCB still make Qualifier 1 vs GT?—How SRH vs RCB IPL 2026 result impacts Bengaluru’s playoff equation

It was a vital game in the Qualifier 1 perspective for both the Bengaluru and the Hyderabad side. In the clash, the home side came with all guns blazing as Abhishek Sharma drilled a fine knock of 56 runs off just 22 balls. India's Ishan Kishan clubbed on 79 runs off 46 balls at a strike rate of 171.74 while Heinrich Klassen's 51 runs fired them up to 255/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

In reply, Bengaluru, despite making a clinical start with the bat inside the powerplay, couldn't use the momentum and fell flat on the floor in the middle overs. However, if they get at least 170 runs in the chase, they would lock their qualifier 1 against the Gujarat Titans at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association in Dharamsala on May 26.
