Twitter Reactions: Abhishek Sharma celebrates 15-ball fifty during SRH vs CSK clash in IPL 2026

Both the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) came into the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 with victories under their belt as they locked horns at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium in Hyderabad. The visitors were struck by several injuries as they lost Khaleel Ahmed for the rest of the campaign.

The visiting captain, Ruturaj Gaikwad, won the toss and decided to bowl first on a good batting surface. They also dropped their left-arm spinner, Akeal Hossein, and brought the off-spinner, Matthew Short, into the playing eleven.

In the previous contest, Abhishek Sharma was dismissed for a golden as he timed the short ball from Jofra Archer into the hands of the fielder, who was stationed for the exact cut shot using the power of the bowler. The left-handed batter started the onslaught with a massive six, slapped through the off-side against Mukesh Choudhary.

When Short went on his leg, the southpaw belted the slot ball down the ground over the long-on region for the same result. He cracked two successive boundaries to finish the fourth over against Anshul Kamboj. But the firecrackers burst on the last over of the power play.

The first delivery was around the off stump as the Punjab-born stood on his leg side and made a sweet connection for a boundary before lofting the second ball over the mid-on region for the same result. He got the hat-trick of boundaries, having nailed the fourth ball to the rope.

The off-spinner darted the fifth delivery on the stumps. Abhishek got under the slightly full delivery and belted it easily over the covers as it sailed over the deep into the stands. He celebrated his fifty with another six.

The 15-ball half-century became the fastest fifties for the Hyderabad side, as the southpaw broke his own record of 16 balls that he got against the Mumbai Indians in 2024.

Hyderabad, after a powerful start, lost two successive wickets of Travis Head and Ishan Kishan to end the powerplay for 75/2 in six overs. This was the third time SRH went past 70 in the powerplay against CSK after their 78/1 and 76/0 in 2024 and 2015, respectively.
