Gujarat Titans (GT) needed a strong start during their 181-run chase during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 clash against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The dew started to make its appearance towards the second innings, making batting a comparatively easier task.

For Kolkata, only Cameron Green was the ray of hope with the knock of 79 runs off 55 balls with the help of seven boundaries and four sixes at a strike rate of 143.64. They lacked the firepower during the death overs, which squeezed a lot of runs from their total.

Shubman Gill celebrates fifty in 27 deliveries against KKR

On the fourth delivery of the chase, the GT captain, Shubman Gill, smashed a fine boundary against Vaibhav Arora. He went forward and thrashed in on the rise as the ball raced away wide of the cover and mid-off region. He creamed Kartik Tyagi in the very next over for two successive boundaries.

When Anukul Roy pitched up the second ball of the third over, the Punjab-born came down the track and took it on the length to loft it over the extra cover for a massive six. He also went straight down the ground for another over boundary against Arora before collecting two more boundaries against Anukul.

Gill finally celebrated his half-century in the 11th over with a single, flicked on the deep mid-wicket region. He celebrated it with a six against Varun Chakravarthy when he went forward and lofted through the line towards the sightscreen.

He has a tremendous record at this venue, having celebrated centuries across formats for the Indian side along with the IPL. This helped the Gujarat side to reach 123 runs for the loss of two wickets in 13 overs as the required run rate was a tad over eight.

Gill was well supported by Sai Sudharsan, who collected 22 runs off 16 balls with two sixes and one boundary, while Jos Buttler nailed 25 runs in 15 balls with the help of two boundaries and a pair of sixes.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): GT 143/3 (Shubman Gill 79*, V Chakravarthy 2/33) vs KKR 180 (Cameron Green 79, Kagiso Rabada 3/29, Mohammed Siraj 2/23)
