Twitter Reacts as BCCI Terminates Central Contracts for Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer
BCCI announces annual player contracts for 2023-24, with notable exclusions like Kishan and Iyer, while emphasizing domestic cricket’s importance; Kishan cites mental inflexibility, Iyer’s absence questioned, both excluded from potential World Cup squad.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has recently unveiled the Annual Player Contracts for Team India (Senior Men) for the 2023-24 season. Notably, Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer have been omitted from the list, while established figures like Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, and Jasprit Bumrah maintain their Grade A+ contracts. These contracts are effective from October 1st, 2023, to September 30th, 2024.
In addition, the Selection Committee has recommended Fast Bowling contracts for several promising athletes, emphasizing the importance of balancing national duties with domestic cricket. However, Dhruv Jurel and Sarfaraz Khan, despite their recent Test debuts, find themselves excluded from the contract list.
Notable Absences in BCCI’s Annual Player Contracts
Ishan Kishan and Shreyas Iyer’s absence from domestic cricket has caught the BCCI’s attention, as both players have chosen to focus on preparations for the Indian Premier League (IPL). Kishan attributed his withdrawal from selection for recent series to mental stiffness, while Iyer cited backache as the reason for skipping domestic matches. Despite medical clearance for Iyer, both players may face consequences for their absence from domestic cricket.

Given their recent decisions and lack of domestic participation, Kishan and Iyer may not be considered for selection in the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 squad by the BCCI selectors. This highlights the importance of consistent performance and commitment to both national and domestic cricket for Indian players aiming for international success.
