Virat Kohli started the three-match ODI series against West Indies with a dashing knock of unbeaten 139 runs in Thiruvananthapuram. During the second clash, in their 400+ run chase, the veteran played a small yet aggressive knock at number three. Meanwhile, he was dismissed for a golden duck during the third clash at the PCA International Cricket Stadium in New Chandigarh.
For the third successive time in the series, India’s captain, Shubman Gill, won the toss and decided to bat first to challenge themselves. They made three changes in the line-up, including handing the debut cap to Anshul Kamboj and dropping the ace all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
Virat Kohli bowled first ball by a 136.5 kph full delivery
Kohli walked into the middle on the fourth delivery of the third over. Jayden Seales, confident of his first wicket, bowled a wide delivery before sending the veteran back for a golden duck. There was a pin-drop silence at the ground.

It was a pitched-up delivery by the pacer outside the middle stump as the ball held its line. Kohli looked to flick it away and missed it altogether. The middle pole was uprooted at the end. Seales joined Darren Sammy, Kieron Pollard, and Tim Bresnan to dismiss the batter for a golden duck in ODIs.
It was the first ODI at the venue, and given Kohli’s duck, it would perhaps be the record for him at this venue, if it doesn’t host any 50-over clash in the future before his retirement after the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
How India struggled to start in the 3rd ODI vs West Indies: Gill and Kohli fall within two balls
On the third ball of the third over, Seales also dismissed the home captain Gill for 1 run. The right-handed batter, who enjoyed a fine double century in Guwahati after his century in Kerala, looked to tuck the leg-side delivery for a boundary but ended up getting an edge as Shai Hope grabbed a superb catch behind the stumps.
After the two wickets, Rohit Sharma and Ruturaj Gaikwad tried to recover the Indian innings. The former had already survived a leg before the stumps appeal as the blue brigade ended up with 28/2 in their first 10 overs of the innings.
Brief Scores: India 40/2 (Rohit Sharma 29*, Jayden Seales 2/10) vs West Indies
