The two legendary players of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, started their preparation for the three-match ODI series against England, which begins on July 14 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. The veteran duo was spotted in a happy mood as they shared a laugh on the outfield during the net session. 

It has been a while since Rohit and Kohli played together for India. Having already retired from the T20Is and Tests, the golden opportunity only comes during the ODIs, which was delayed due to the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026.

Virat Kohli was absent during the recent three-match ODI series for India against Afghanistan at home. He was recovering from an injury that he picked during the IPL 2026 for the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). But he returned to the 50-over side after regaining full fitness.

Rohit hasn’t enjoyed a great time in ODIs in 2026 after the two ordinary home series against New Zealand and Afghanistan. Questions will be on his place if he doesn’t do well against England, especially with the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia, knocking on the door.

The pair of Ro-Ko looked well rested and eager to get back onto the field during their brief interaction in the practice session. They continued their conversation, having prepared for their batting stint in the nets as well.

In 2026, Kohli is India’s second leading run-getter in ODIs, having notched up 240 runs in three innings at an average of 80 and a strike rate of more than 105 with the help of one century and one fifty at the best score of 124. Rohit, meanwhile, has clubbed 204 runs in six innings at 34 with just one fifty in the same yardstick.

When it comes to ODIs in England, Rohit leads the chart for India, having registered 1428 runs in just 27 innings at an average of around 65 and a strike rate of 90.78 with seven fifties and as many centuries. In the same parameter, Virat Kohli drilled 1349 runs in 33 innings at 51.88 with 12 fifties and one century.
