Due to Arshdeep Singh’s finger injury that he picked up during the practice session in Beckenham while fielding, he has been ruled out of the fourth Test of the five-match series against England at Old Trafford in Manchester. Along with him, the right-handed pacer from Bengal, Akash Deep, is unlikely to be part of the fixture.

That’s the reason behind the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) adding the young right-arm seamer, Anshul Kamboj, in the squad for the remainder of the series. The Haryana-pacer had a wonderful time in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 for the Chennai Super Kings as he shared his journey from a young age.

‘Basically, I used to love cricket from the start. My father used to love it, so I used to play in the local tournaments whenever I got some free time. I was around 12 when I started to play professional cricket. The aim was always to feature as a fast bowler. My father has played a huge role in that and supported me the most. Family and coaches supported me a lot.’ Anshul Kamboj expressed during a recent interaction on Star Sports.

The 24-year-old has picked up 79 wickets in 41 first-class innings at an average of under 23 and a strike rate of 44.2 with the best bowling figure of 10/49 in an innings. He informed how he used to follow the former pacer, Glenn McGrath, in the past.

‘When you start to get this amount of support, then you start to push yourself up mentally, and it feels enjoyable to work hard. When I started to play cricket, I used to travel a lot because I was from the village. It was a travel of nearly an hour to go and another hour to come. But I always tried to invest more life behind cricket.’ Kamboj addressed.

‘When I was growing up and used to see the game on television, Glenn McGrath was very famous, and I was inspired by his consistency. I used to see his videos, and just like him, I always try to keep focus on keeping it simple and hit the right line and length to get purchase of the surface.’ The Haryana pacer revealed as he looked set to make his Test debut in Manchester.
