During the opening Test of the two-match series against West Indies, Pakistan’s captain, Babar Azam, grabbed a superb airborne catch to dismiss Justin Greaves, which lifted the energy of the visitors after they conceded a small lead of 29 runs in the first innings, due to their batting collapse.

Having bundled out the Roston Chase-led side for 311 runs on the board, Pakistan were in a strong position with 200 runs on the board for the loss of three wickets. But they lost their last seven wickets for just 38 runs and slipped from 244/3 to 282 all-out.

It was the fifth delivery of the 33rd over of the innings. Mohammad Abbas came up with a full-length delivery, which was hit on the up by Justin Greaves for 20 runs. The right-handed batter failed to keep the ball down as Babar, standing at the cover region, led by example.

As soon as the ball was hit on the up, Babar dived to his left and grabbed it with two hands. That was the sixth wicket for the West Indies side. Greaves was the last set batter and had to depart. That ball was outside the off stump, and the right-handed batter looked to drive it.

Babar has again been given the responsibility of leading the Test side as the board had had enough of Shan Masood. The latter, however, released of the captaincy pressure, celebrated his century at the Brian Lara Stadium in Tarouba.

West Indies posted 311 runs in the first innings, thanks to the two half-centuries from Kavem Hodge and Shai Hope. Hodge ended up with 84 runs, thanks to nine boundaries, while the wicket-keeper batter Hope nailed 92 runs, shouldering six boundaries and one six.

Pakistan, despite being in a good position after Masood’s superb knock of 109 runs with 12 boundaries, were bundled out for 282 and gave away a lead of 29 runs. Justin Greaves ended with a superb figure of 5/27 in 11 overs at an economy rate of 2.50.

West Indies, in the third innings of the encounter, were restricted to 93/7 before they finished the third day with 126/7, leading by 155 runs.
