It was a do-or-die clash for the Pakistan side as they headed into their last group-stage encounter against India at the Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo. The net run rate was vital for the qualification of the Pakistan side. They won the toss and decided to make use the fresh surface first with the new ball.

India went off to a flying start with the bat as Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Aaron George put up a strong opening stand of 46 runs for no damage in just seven overs. Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had made his way to 30 runs in just 19 balls before Mohammad Sayyam came up with the most thrilling overs of a cricket game.

On the third ball of the eighth over, the left-handed opening batter looked to pull the short ball and could get it high in the air before the fielder dropped it. But he threw it to the stumps as the batter was short of his crease, but he didn’t get dismissed only due to the lack of attentiveness from the wicket-keeper.

However, Pakistan got their man on the very next delivery as Suryavanshi edged the back of a length delivery into the hands of the wicket-keeper, Hamza Zahoor, and went back to the dressing room for 30 runs in 22 balls with the help of five boundaries and one six. India’s captain, Ayush Mhatre, made his way into the middle.

The right-handed batter negotiated the first ball of Sayyam before edging the next delivery into the gloves of the keeper. He just threw his bat at the angled delivery and got dismissed for a two-ball duck. In a blink of an eye, India lost their two strong players while Aaron Gorge was dismissed on the first ball of the next over.

In a span of four ball, India lost three wickets and didn’t get a single run of the board. Pakistan got a new energy in themselves as the blue brigade struggled to make their way to 51/3 in 11 overs.

Brief Scores: India U19 66/3 (Vaibhav Sooryavanshi 30, Mohammad Sayyam 2/32) vs Pakistan U19.
