India defeated England by seven runs in the semi-final of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026at the Wankhede Stadium. The match began with a brilliant knock from Sanju Samson, who scored 89 runs. Ishan Kishan, Shivam Dube, Hardik Pandya and Tilak Varma also played useful cameos. With their efforts, India scored 253 runs in the first innings, which is their second-highest total in T20 World Cup history.
During the match, former India captain MS Dhoni and his wife Sakshi Dhoni made a rare public appearance at the stadium. They were watching the game from the stands. At one moment, a funny incident happened that later went viral on social media. Dhoni was seen asking Sakshi to calm down after she jumped in excitement, thinking that India had taken a wicket.
The moment happened in the 18th over of England’s chase. Jasprit Bumrah bowled a full delivery to Sam Curran, who hit the ball straight back towards the bowler. The ball bounced before reaching Bumrah. However, many fans in the crowd, including Sakshi Dhoni, thought the catch had been taken.
Sakshi jumped and cheered in excitement, thinking it was a wicket. MS Dhoni then calmly explained to her what actually happened and asked her to relax. The sweet moment between the couple was captured on camera, and the video quickly went viral on social media.

Dhoni Calms Sakshi After Bump Catch Confusion
Sakshi thought Jasprit Bumrah had dismissed the batter when he caught the ball after England all-rounder Sam Curran played a defensive shot. However, the ball had bounced before it reached the pacer. MS Dhoni was clapping for Bumrah’s effort when he noticed Sakshi celebrating. He then told her that it was not out.
Former India captain MS Dhoni was spotted at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai during the high-voltage semi-final between India and England on Thursday. Dhoni was seen in the stands cheering for India in the important match of the ICC T20 World Cup 2026.
Earlier, Dhoni and Sakshi had attended the wedding of Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar in Mumbai.
Talking about the match, India secured a seven-run win to reach the final of the tournament. The Men in Blue scored 254/7 in 20 overs, with Sanju Samson making 89 runs from 42 balls. Hardik Pandya (27 off 12), Ishan Kishan (39 off 18), Tilak Varma (21 off 7), and Shivam Dube (43 off 25) also played important innings.
Jacob Bethell scored a brilliant hundred for England, but his effort went in vain. Jasprit Bumrah (1/33) and Hardik Pandya (2/38) bowled well for India.
India will now face New Zealand in the final on March 8 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
