Rohit has not been in action on the ground since the end of the 2025 season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) for the Mumbai Indians (MI). The right-handed batter, who has smashed over 7000 IPL runs in 267 innings at a strike rate of 132.09, contributed with 418 runs in 15 innings at a strike rate of nearly 150 for four fifties.
The veteran decided to announce his retirement from the T20Is after last year’s World Cup before making another declaration of hanging up his shoes from the longest format before the five-match Test series against England in the United Kingdom. The board, reportedly, wants them to feature in either the unofficial ODI series against Australia A or the Vijay Hazare Trophy 2025 to find form and rhythm. Both, having taken retirements from the longest and shortest formats, are eyeing to do well for the Blue Brigade in the ODI World Cup 2027 in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia.
