The 12th edition of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) has already begun. Despite the festive mood and two matches on the opening day, there was no trophy unveiling or traditional captains’ photoshoot.
Later, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) explained the reason for this. The board said that a new trophy is currently being made by a company based in Dubai and will arrive midway through the tournament. According to the BPL Governing Council, the delay happened because the old trophy design did not meet expectations, and a redesign was needed.
Speaking to reporters in Sylhet, BCB Vice President and Governing Council member Sakhawat Hossain shared more details. He said the previous trophy had been used for many years, so the board wanted a change. He also said that two trophies are being made this time. One trophy will be given to the champions, while the other will remain with the BCB.

Trophy Delay Explained by BCB Officials
Sakhawat Hossain also explained the reason for the delay. He said the first redesigned trophy did not meet the board’s standards. “The earlier trophy was very traditional. We tried a new design, but it was not good enough. That is why we changed it again. The new trophy will arrive very soon,” he said.

BCB director and head of the board’s media committee, Amjad Hossain, shared more details about the trophy. He revealed that the new BPL trophy is diamond-studded and costs 25,000 US dollars. “There has been a small delay in receiving it, but once it arrives, I believe everyone will like it,” he said.
After the trophy arrives in Bangladesh, the BCB is expected to hold a formal unveiling ceremony. The event will also include the much-awaited captains’ photoshoot. On the opening day of the tournament, only a short opening ceremony was held. A 15-minute program took place before the first match, followed by cultural performances during the break between the two games.
