Will Rishabh Pant bat today on Day 2 of SL vs IND 2nd Test in Colombo?

Heading into the second day of the second Test, the biggest question was whether the wicket-keeper batter, Rishabh Pant, would come out to bat on the second day’s play of the second Test against Sri Lanka at the Sinhalese Sports Club in Colombo. He retired hurt on three after injuring his left wrist. 

India, having won the toss on the opening day’s play of the second Test, decided to bat first as they posted 300 runs on the board in 85 overs with Devdutt Padikkal celebrating a fine knock of 117 runs off 193 balls at a strike rate of more than 60, thanks to 12 boundaries.

Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak gives a positive update; Confirms Pant is padded up and expected to resume

India’s batting coach, Sitanshu Kotak, confirmed that Pant would be fit to bat on Day 2 of the Colombo Test after the wicket-keeper left the field with injury. He was hit on his left wrist by a short delivery from Lahiru Kumara during the 58th over, soon after the start of the third session.

Pant tried to pull the short ball into the leg side but only ended up gloving it and looked in immediate pain. The physio came into the field and put ice pack before he walked off. Ravindra Jadeja came out to bat in his place.

“Rishabh Pant will be fine to bat tomorrow.” Kotak expressed on India’s concerns by confirming that Pant would return to the crease as he spoke at the press conference after the opening day’s play of the game.

India lost both of their opening batters, Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul, in the first innings as the former was dismissed on 45 runs off 53 balls with the help of nine boundaries. Devdutt Padikkal has cemented his spot at number three with another century. Their captain, Shubman Gill, drilled a fine half-century before being dismissed.

Jadeja also missed out on 43 runs, shouldering on four boundaries at a strike rate of around 52. At the start of the second day’s play, Saransh Jain was bounced out as Pant returned to the crease. India would hope to post a strong score on the board in the first innings to capture the front seat.
