In the 19th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, Yuzvendra Chahal is playing for the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and is also the highest wicket-taker in the league's history. However, his entire life remains quite controversial. After his divorce from his ex-wife, Dhanashree, Chahal was spotted with different women, and controversies started. In fact, the controversy around his divorce was also pretty huge.

Despite the controversy in his personal life, Chahal has always managed to perform well in the tournament. Even in the ongoing season, he has taken wickets and helped Punjab win a few games. But recently, he has moved court by lodging a defamation case against Taniya Chatterjee.

Legal dispute escalates between Chahal and Taniya Chatterjee

The controversy surrounding Yuzvendra Chahal and actress Taniya Chatterjee has taken a serious turn, with the cricketer reportedly filing a defamation case. What began as a social media buzz has now evolved into a legal battle, drawing widespread attention during the ongoing IPL 2026 season.

The issue gained traction after Chatterjee’s statements in a paparazzi interaction went viral, triggering intense reactions online. As trolling and speculation grew, Chahal chose to respond through legal channels, signalling his intent to challenge the claims formally.

The development has shifted the narrative from a light-hearted viral moment to a more complex dispute involving reputation and public perception. While Chahal has not publicly elaborated on the case, the move indicates the seriousness of the matter amid heightened media scrutiny.

What sparked the controversy involving the viral chat claims

The row reportedly began when Taniya Chatterjee claimed that Yuzvendra Chahal had sent her a direct message on Instagram, calling her “cute.” The remark, shared casually during an interaction, quickly went viral across social media platforms. The people started trolling Chahal for sending the message while he was married, sparking debate.

As the clip spread, it led to heavy trolling and divided opinions among fans, with many debating the intent and context behind the alleged message. Chatterjee later expressed surprise at the scale of the reaction, stating that she did not expect the comment to attract such widespread attention.

As per reports, the situation escalated further when claims emerged that Chahal’s team had asked for the video to be taken down, adding another layer to the controversy. Eventually, the matter moved beyond social media chatter, culminating in legal action.
