“What hurt me was”- Yuzvendra Chahal breaks silence on RJ Mahvash relationship

The Indian leg spinner, Yuzvendra Chahal, has broken his silence on his relationship with Mahvash, which sounded like he went through a really stressful and frustrating situation. The statement came amid the dating rumours after the two were seen together on many occasions in the past.  

Chahal has not featured for the Indian side for more than 45 months, as his last ODI game came against New Zealand in January 2023 at Indore. Meanwhile, the leg spinner’s last encounter came during a T20I against West Indies at Lauderhill in August 2023.

What did Chahal say about his relationship with RJ Mahvash?

In a recent interaction, Chahal has looked back at the situation and claimed that they went to enjoy the Champions Trophy 2025 final between India and New Zealand at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. He was hurt by how people started to discuss different things despite them being good friends.

“My first meeting with RJ Mahvash happened when I went to watch the Champions League final after a long time, and she was there too. That’s where I met her for the first time. After that, people started talking about that public photo and saying all kinds of nasty things about her and spreading a lot of rumours about us.” Chahal expressed.

“The truth is, she was a very good friend of mine. We were never in a relationship. She was always there for me during my difficult times, and that meant a lot to me. But what really hurt me was seeing people say hurtful things about a very good friend of mine without even knowing the truth.” He informed me in the same interaction.

The leg spinner also clarified that there had been no relationship between them and that they were not good friends. He explained the entire situation in the discussion.

“I tried to explain the situation to her, but nowadays people often say many things without knowing the actual truth, and that’s exactly what happened with us. We were genuinely very good friends, and there was never any kind of relationship between us.” The Indian star concluded. 

What really happened between Chahal and Mahvash?

The rumours began after they were repeatedly seen together. Their appearances, especially after Chahal’s separation and divorce from Dhanashree Verma, led to the speculation that the two were dating. Neither Chahal nor Mahvash confirmed a romantic relationship.

In the May 2026 interview, Mahvash claimed that their friendship was always friendship and explained that the Indian star needed a supportive friend during that period. She described herself as someone who stood by his friend during a tough period.

The ‘breakup’ narrative appears to have come largely from social-media speculation, while Mahvansh’s account describes the connection as a friendship.
