Top 5 leading run scorers in the Ashes:

5. Steve Waugh

Steve Waugh

Steve Waugh, one of the most influential and successful captains in the history of Australian cricket, in the 5th spot of the list shows how competitive the list is going to be. From 1986 to 2003, Waugh played a total of 45 matches for Australia in The Ashes. In this number of matches, he scored 3171 runs at a batting average of 58.71, powered by the highest score of 177 not out. Ten 100s and fourteen 50s are the evidence of his class and toughness against the English bowling line-up. Ashes 1989 is considered as one of his best, as he registered two unbeaten centuries at Headingley (177*) and Lord's (152*).
