Hosts India and the visitors England are ready for the first game of the T20I series, as Eden Gardens in Kolkata is hosting the five-match T20I series opener on Wednesday (January 22) evening. 

It is the first international meeting between India and England since the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 Semi-final at Providence, where India beat the defending champions by 68 runs. 

India and England have met in 24 T20Is before this series, where India recorded 13 victories and England won 11 times. In India, we can see their tough battle with six wins for the hosts and five victories for the English side.

Talking about India and England’s T20I records at Eden Gardens (Kolkata), India have recorded six wins and one loss, while England have recorded one victory and one defeat. India’s only T20I defeat at this venue was against England in 2011. It was the first T20I at this venue, where India only managed to score 120/9 and England chased down the target in 18.4 overs after losing four wickets, where the English star Kevin Pietersen won the Player of the Match award for his match-winning half-century. 

Meanwhile, England’s other T20I match at this venue was the ICC World T20 2016 Final against West Indies. It was that match where the Caribbean team snatched the trophy away from the English side in the final over of the match where Carlos Brathwaite smashed four consecutive sixes in the first four balls of the deciding over to the pacer Ben Stokes.
