Mumbai Indians face a major setback as captain Hardik Pandya is in doubt for the IPL 2024 season due to a lingering ankle injury, following his trade from Gujarat Titans.
Mumbai Indians, led by new captain Hardik Pandya, strategically strengthened their squad in the IPL 2024 mini-auction, prioritizing fast-bowling additions and securing notable talents like Gerald Coetzee and Mohammad Nabi.
The choice to replace Rohit with Hardik as captain stirred discontent among numerous Mumbai Indians fans, with many voicing their disappointment and anger on social media. In an extreme display of displeasure, one fan protested the leadership change by burning a Mumbai Indians jersey.
Mumbai Indians face the prospect of Hardik Pandya’s return while considering the release of Ishan Kishan and other players, managing a modest purse of INR 50 lakh for the IPL 2024 auction. The challenge includes strategic player releases to accommodate the Pandya trade, with Rohit Sharma aiming to strengthen the squad after lackluster performances in the previous two seasons.
Hardik Pandya, initially with Mumbai Indians in IPL since 2015, moved to Gujarat Titans in 2022 as captain, leading them to victory. Recent reports hint at discussions for a potential trade, suggesting a return to Mumbai Indians for the upcoming IPL 2024 season.
The IPL Auction for 2024 is scheduled to be held in Dubai on December 19, 2023. The IPL 2024 season is anticipated to kick off from March 23, 2024, and extend until May 29, 2024.
