Afghanistan to host India for 3-match T20I series — Full schedule, dates, venues
Afghanistan is going to host India for the very first time in the history as talks have been going on for the three-match T20I series between the two sides in September.

For the very first time in history, Afghanistan will host India in an international series, which will happen this year. But the venue will be India’s home venue, the national capital of the country. The reports have claimed that there are plans between the two boards to play a three-match T20I series at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in New Delhi.
Just a week later, both these two sides will face each other in a one-off Test match in New Chandigarh and the three 50-over games from June 13, as the games will take place in Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai till June 20.

An official announcement is awaited. But the matches are slotted to be played on September 13, 16, and 19. The reports have added that both the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) are in talks for a return tour.
“BCCI and ACB share a good relationship. BCCI has been helping other boards like Ireland, Sri Lanka, and Zimbabwe by sending Indian teams to play a series there to boost the finances of those boards. An understanding has been reached between BCCI and ACB in this regard.” The reports of the Times of India (TOI) have been addressed.
“An official announcement will be made after a few modalities are completed. The BCCI mediated an understanding between ACB, the Delhi and District Cricket Association (DDCA), for availability to be the home base for Afghanistan for the series.” It revealed.
Afghanistan has been playing its home games in India and the UAE over the last decade due to the geopolitical issues. They hosted Ireland in a series in Greater Noida in 2017 before playing Bangladesh in Dehradun in 2018.
The Rashid Khan-led side also played a full-strength New Zealand series in Greater Noida in September 2024. However, the game was abandoned due to poor outfield after a full day of rain two days before the game.
“The itinerary has been shared with India’s national selection committee since they have to pick a 15-member T20 team for the Asian Games in late Sept. The cricket event at the Asian Games is due to start on Sept 23. The selectors will pick the team accordingly.” The report added.

Afghanistan vs India head-to-head in T20Is — Who has the edge going into the 2026 Series?
Afghanistan and India have faced each other in nine T20Is, with the Suryakumar Yadav-led side winning eight of those. One game was abandoned due to rain. Their last contest came during the Super Eight stage of the ICC T20 World Cup 2024, where the Rohit Sharma-led side beat their neighbours by 47 runs.
In the T20I series between the two sides, Virat Kohli is the leading run-getter. The right-handed batter smashed 225 runs in six innings at a strike rate of around 160, with the best score of an unbeaten 122 runs.
In the bowling department, Arshdeep Singh is the highest T20I wicket-taker between the two teams. The left-arm pacer has picked up eight wickets in five innings at an economy rate of just over seven.
