Chennai Super Kings (CSK) secured a convincing victory over Mumbai Indians (MI) in their IPL 2026 clash in Chennai on Sunday, marking a historic milestone in the process. With this win, CSK became the first franchise to register 20 IPL victories against MI. The two five-time champions now share a closely contested head-to-head record, with MI holding 21 wins and CSK narrowing the gap to 20.

Beyond the record-breaking result, the match was also defined by the electrifying atmosphere at Chepauk. During the IPL 2026 clash, CSK fans created a vibrant and charged environment as they directed chants toward the Mumbai Indians. The crowd echoed “Mumbai Cha Raja CSK,” a playful yet pointed slogan that quickly became the highlight of the stands.

The chant, delivered with both intensity and humour, was widely seen as a subtle dig at MI, reflecting the deep-rooted rivalry between the two franchises. Chepauk, known for its passionate supporters, once again lived up to its reputation as a fortress of vocal and loyal cricket fandom.

CSK Fans Turn Chepauk Electric with “Mumbai Cha Raja CSK” Chant

In a moment that mixed rivalry with creativity, sections of the CSK crowd were heard chanting “Mumbai Cha Raja CSK” during the IPL 2026 clash at M. A. Chidambaram Stadium. The chant added a unique twist to an already intense contest, echoing around the stadium and reflecting the home fans’ strong presence. The phrase carried a sense of irony, as it is traditionally associated with Mumbai’s identity, making the response from the stands both provocative and attention-grabbing.

The chant “Mumbai Cha Raja” is often used by MI fans in reference to Rohit Sharma, recognising his key role in leading the Mumbai Indians to multiple IPL titles and unforgettable moments over the years. With Rohit Sharma not featuring in the match and MI delivering a below-par performance, CSK supporters used the slogan in a different context during the game.

As clips of the chant spread across social media, it once again highlighted the powerful role fan culture plays in shaping the IPL experience. Beyond runs and wickets, it is these spontaneous and emotional moments from the stands that continue to define the tournament’s atmosphere and intensity.

Chennai Super Kings secured a commanding eight-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2026 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. Leading into the match, the Hardik Pandya-led MI side was under immense pressure, having suffered six losses in eight games. Treating the fixture as a must-win to stay alive in the playoff race, Mumbai once again faltered in both batting and bowling and now find themselves on the brink of elimination.

Mumbai Indians won the toss and opted to bat first, with captain Hardik Pandya explaining that the team wanted their batters to play freely and set a strong foundation. However, only Ryan Rickelton and Naman Dhir managed to make significant contributions. Rickelton impressed in the powerplay with 37 runs off 24 balls, while Naman top-scored with 57 off 37 deliveries. The rest of the batting unit collapsed under pressure, with Suryakumar Yadav scoring 21, Tilak Varma managing just 5, and Hardik Pandya contributing 18 off 21 balls. As a result, MI could only post 159 runs, a below-par total in modern T20 cricket.

In response, CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad anchored the chase with an unbeaten 67 off 48 balls, continuing his fine run of form with consecutive half-centuries. Although Sanju Samson fell early, Gaikwad ensured stability at one end and guided the innings with control. He was initially supported by Urvil Patel before Kartik Sharma, the ₹14.2 crore signing, stepped up in the middle order. Promoted to number four, the 18-year-old justified the team management’s trust with an unbeaten 54 off 40 balls, finishing the chase in style and helping CSK register their fourth win of the season in nine matches, keeping their playoff hopes alive.
