In a knockout clash, the captain always needs to make a special performance, and Northamptonshire’s captain, David Willey, during the very first semifinal clash of the T20 Blast 2026, at Edgbaston in Birmingham, showed how he brought themselves back into the clash with an extraordinary catch.

Craig Overton played a sensational knock during the quarterfinal clash for Somerset against Yorkshire at Leeds, and his wicket was always going to be viral for the opposition side. Willey just made a stunning catch look so easy as it went viral around the social media platforms.

It was the third ball of the 18th over of the innings. Ben Sanderson went with a full slower delivery at the right-handed batter, C Overton, who thought of smashing the six. The ball went high in the air as the wind had nearly taken it over the ropes for a six.

It was almost a six until the camera suddenly picked up David Willey diving and flying beyond the rope. He took the catch with both hands and had the presence of mind to flick it back in time before landing past the boundary rope.

Credit should also go to Sai Zaib for running to the right from long-off and staying close to Willey, who knew it the moment his partner took the catch. The third umpire went through several checks to see if Willey had stepped on the rope before getting his hands on the ball. But it was a clean and superb catch to send Overton back in the hut.
