There was an massive expectation from the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) fans to see their new superstar, Dewald Brevis, in the field during the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. But that was hampered after the youngster picked up an injury during the practice session and was out of action for their first three games.

Brevis returned to the playing eleven for the Super Kings during their previous contest against the Delhi Capitals (DC). But Sanju Samson’s fantastic century and a fiery knock from Ayush Mhatre didn’t give him the chance to bat and entertain the crowd.

CSK fans go mad on Dewald Brevis’ arrival in IPL 2026

During their fixture against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Mhatre got dismissed on the last delivery of the powerplay. That welcomed Dewald Brevis at the crease with a massive and loud cheer from the home fans, who went absolutely mad to see their star player in the middle.

And after taking a single on the very first delivery, the right-handed batter went after Sunil Narine to put the former West Indies spinner into the stands. It was a fuller-length delivery as Brevis’ eyes lit up. He took his front leg out and cleared the long-on region for a huge six as the fielder, despite the jump, couldn’t stop it.

During the 14th over of the innings, he clubbed Vaibhav Arora for two successive boundaries. He hammered away the short ball with free hands and put the ball over the ropes. Later, he nailed the same pacer for another six with a pull shot as the ball sailed over the backward square leg.

However, his stay came to an end for 41 runs in 29 balls with the help of four boundaries and a pair of sixes. He was foxed by Kartik Tyagi’s slower delivery outside the off stump. His thick outside edge was caught brilliantly by the short third man to send the batter back in the hut.

CSK fail to dominate death overs to finish with 192/5

CSK started the powerplay strongly with 72 runs before struggling in the middle overs for 1/70 in nine overs at an economy rate of just 7.77. They also didn’t get the firing finish with only 50 runs coming off the last five overs. 192/5 for CSK becomes their second-highest innings score without any individual fifty.

Brief Scores (at the time of writing): KKR 13/1 (Sunil Narine 11*, Anshul Kamboj 1/6) vs CSK- 192/5 (Sanju Samson 48, Katik Tyagi 2/35)
