Even at the age of 41, the Texas Super Kings (TSK) captain, Faf du Plessis, showed his excellent fitness and acrobatics in the field by grabbing a superb one-handed catch to dismiss Lhuan-dre Pretorius for 17 runs during the contest against the San Francisco Unicorns in the Major League Cricket (MLC) 2026 at the Oakland Coliseum in Oakland. 

It was not a great batting performance from the Texas side in the first innings on a surface which was skidding a bit as the ball, put into the right line and length, was making life tough for the batters to smash the big shots.

After four overs in the chase of 162 runs, the Unicorns side found themselves at 33/1 as Lhuan-dre Pretorius already made his intentions clear by whipping the good length delivery over the wide long-on region for a flat six.

But he had to make way on the first delivery of the fifth over. And the main reason behind it was Faf, who grabbed a shocking catch. The ball was smashed hard to wide mid-off against the bowling of Amshi de Silva, and the TSK captain dived to his right and took an excellent catch.

He was in the air when he grabbed the ball. The veteran also ensured that the ball wouldn’t pop out of his hands when he fell on the ground. That was a fine catch from a 41-year-old, who used to take such catches in his prime with comfort.

TSK post 161/8 and bowl SFU out short as Du Plessis & Co. avenge their earlier defeat by 22 runs

The Super Kings posted a decent score of 161 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their allotted 20 overs against the Unicorns in Oakland. Their captain smashed 40 runs off 24 balls at a strike rate of 166.67, with the help of two boundaries and three sixes in their 72-run opening stand off 7.5 overs. However, they lost their next four wickets for just 24 runs in the next 28 balls.

Donovan Ferreira offered them the fine finish with a knock of 45 runs in 28 balls at a strike rate of 160.71, thanks to two boundaries and four sixes.

Meanwhile, the Unicorns, who continued to lose wickets consistently, were bundled out for 139 runs in 17.4 overs. The Sri Lanka-born De Silva finished with four wickets for 28 runs in four overs while Adam Milne and Abhimanyu Lamba picked up two wickets each.

TSK, with the win, moved to the second position with four points in two games at a net run rate of -0.112. San Francisco, on the other hand, dropped to the fifth position with one win in three clashes at a NRR of -0.175.
