The Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) appears to have decided on the players involved in the disciplinary breaches for the heated clash with Vaibhav Sooryavanshi during the Tri-Nation Series 2026 at the Rangiri International Cricket Stadium in Dambulla, with Vishan Halambage and Niroshan Dickwella being on the wrong side of the coin.

The former Sri Lankan fast bowler, Jeyapragash, imposed the fine on these players. Interestingly, one of the fines was on Dickwella, who was actually the peace-maker in the bust-off. However, it has been learnt that the wicket-keeper batter was fined for a different offence.

What Halambage said to Sooryavanshi — and why the match referee issued a 2-match ban

It’s not clear if any fine has been imposed on Sooryavanshi, the Indian prodigy who was getting physical in the clash with Halambage after the end of the ill-tempered contest, which they won in a super over after the 50-over clash was tied due to the brilliant final over from Arshad Khan.

Text messages to the India A management and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had not responded to the discussion. No formal hearing has been done, and Jeyapragash, who played his only international game against India, imposed the sanctions based on the reports of the on-field umpires.

The heated argument started after Sooryavanshi was upset with something, and there were a few angry words being exchanged between him and one of the fielders. His batting partner, Suryansh Shedge, dragged the youngster out of the circle.

Dickwella fined: The moment he intervened — and why footage showed it made things worse

Dickwella was fined due to the breach of excessive appealing. He seemed to have an appeal on every single delivery, which didn’t satisfy the umpires on many occasions, and the fine was imposed on the wicket-keeper.

There is a sense of regret with the Sri Lanka cricket community over the way the events unfolded on the evening of June 15. The reports have claimed that the disappointment was not over the incident itself, but also over the fact that an altercation between the India and Sri Lanka players took place at home.

The sanctions were imposed by the Sri Lanka board as the International Cricket Council (ICC) will have no role to play in the matter, as these A-games are under the List-A and FC status.

What the sanctions mean for Sri Lanka A's campaign — and Sooryavanshi's disciplinary record

On the eve of India’s senior side’s third ODI against Afghanistan in Lucknow, their spin bowling coach, Sairaj Bahutule, expressed his views on the sanctions.

“I think it was an unfortunate incident. But we don't know how he was provoked. Because, as far as I know, Vaibhav is a very composed boy. I'm sure there are experienced coaches there who will make him understand.” Bahutule addressed.

“And I think the Sri Lankan players should also be educated in terms of how they need to behave. And so does it go with us. We will make sure that information is given to him as to why that happened. But he will learn. He's a young kid, and going forward, some sort of understanding will be there with him.” He informed.

That was not the first disciplinary issue with Sooryavanshi, who put a finger against Pakistan during the U-19 games. He was also under the scanner regarding an alleged anti-corruption breach after being seen next to the Rajasthan Royals (RR) team manager, Romi Bhinder, in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026, who was using a mobile phone in the dugout.

As of publication, Sooryavanshi faces no confirmed sanction. The BCCI has not responded to queries, and the match referee has not issued a formal hearing date for the India A batter's conduct
